"Strictly Au Revoir"

Strictly Au Revoir

After ten wonderful years, and with a truly heavy heart, I have decided to decline the BBC's very kind offer to compete again in series eleven, and have withdrawn from being a competitive dancer on Strictly Come Dancing.

It's been a very hard decision to make, but it's time for a change and to focus my attention on new challenges. That said, it's not necessarily farewell to Strictly, as I do hope to continue being a part of the show.

Erin Boag on Strictly Come Dancing

With this change in mind, it's a timely opportunity to look back over the last ten series. I feel so privileged to have been involved with the show since it began almost a decade ago when both Anton and I were invited by the BBC to dance in the very first series. It's amazing to be part of something so very special - a global phenomenon! - that not only brought ballroom dancing back into favour, but also onto prime-time television, capturing the hearts and imaginations of viewers - and encouraging people to enjoy dance, too!

It's been so much fun making new friends, meeting wonderful people, and of course being partnered with such lovely celebrities year after year. I'm going to miss spending so much time with my amazing fellow professional dancers - it's true what they say, Strictly really is just like a great big family! From its inspirational producers; the dedicated crew who work so tirelessly behind the scenes; the costume, hair and make-up teams who've made me look so fabulous every week, and of course the wonderful Strictly house band of musicians and singers who never miss a beat, everybody continually works so very hard to push the boundaries and make each series bigger, better and more spectacular!

Strictly wouldn't be Strictly without you, the fans, and I can't thank you enough for all the encouragement and support you've given me and my celebrity partners over the past ten series - you've made this wonderful journey all the more magical.

With so many incredible moments and happy memories it's hard to pick my favourites, and it would be impossible to choose between my wonderful partners... so I'm simply going to leave you with some pro-dance highlights where Anton and I were lucky enough to perform alongside world class artistes. Enjoy!

I'm certainly not hanging up my dancing shoes and retiring from the ballroom... far from it! I'm going to be doing more television work, choreography and teaching (news on that to follow!), and Anton and I will still be performing at shows and events across the country as usual... keep an eye on our websites and twitter for all the latest!

So, it's ciao for now, but in the words of Brucie himself... Keeeeeeeeep dancing!!

Lots of love,

I'm glad I spotted your Tweet linking to this post. It's the end of an era and we'll be very sad to see you go - you were my other half's favourite, every series and whenever I get to watch the show in my busy schedule, I've always enjoyed your celebrity and pro dances. Best wishes for your future endeavours.

You will be truly missed, many many thanks for the years of pleasure watching you and Anton. We did have the pleasure of attending one of your classes in Manchester last year. You both made it so special and we hope to join you again sometime soon. Have fun with what ever you do next and again thank you.

You will be sadly missed from Strictly, but it's good to see that you and Anton are still doing weekends and workshops and maybe we will meet up with you again at one of them.

Such a shame that you will no longer be on the show, but I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you for the last 10 series. I hope you and Antonio will still be touring, I've come along for the last 4 years. Good luck for your future ventures, we look forward to seeing what you will do next xx

This news has brought a tear to my eye - Strictly has lost a star. Thank you for ten years of magic. Looking forward to reading about your next projects :)

Totally gutted! You were always my favourite, and it was bad enough when you married another man, but now no regular Saturday night dates! Seriously Erin, thanks for the 10 years of magical memories, and the live tours with Anton, which I will look forward to even more! Hope there is a role for you somewhere in Strictlyland, where I will continue to support Anton! Best for the future. X

Thank you so much for some truly beautiful ballroom over the years. For the sake of everyone who loves the purity of true ballroom, please keep dancing and promoting it... we need you to do it! Have loved and been so grateful for your class and style in the face of recent more tacky mixed dances, and wish to say simply THANK YOU.

So sad to hear this news as you have been a true Strictly star and stalwart! You've been my favourite female pro for a long time and you will be sorely missed by everyone :( I hope you and Anton may still have the chance to perform on the Strictly floor because you two really are the King and Queen of ballroom. Good luck with all your future projects and I hope it won't be too long before you're back on our TV screens :) x

No no no, I don't know how I am going to cope without Erin. This is a very sad day.
Suzy Kelly commented on 01-Jun-2013 03:18 PM
What a graceful and gracious presence you have been on the show. The best teacher and a sublime ballroom dancer. I know you can't pick favourites but your pairing with Austin Healey was my favourite ever. Best of luck in your new projects.
Sue commented on 01-Jun-2013 03:48 PM
Such sad news, of course understand that you can't stay on the show forever no matter how much you are loved. I had the honour of meeting you and Anton after your show in Brighton last year - so warm and genuine. It is the reason you were so great to watch on the show. I really hope like Karen & Ian you might beckme a permanent feature on ITT!! Good luck in your new ventures.
Milly-Molly commented on 01-Jun-2013 04:53 PM
You and Austin dancing the jive to "You Can't Stop the Beat" remains one of the best things I have ever seen on Strictly! You are an absolute class act and will be sorely missed. I'm pleased they didn't fire you like they did some of the others and you went of your own free will... went out on top. :)
Jo commented on 01-Jun-2013 04:59 PM
Feel very flat after hearing the news. But so hope you enjoy your new challenges. Glad to hear that you'll still be dancing with Anton sometimes!

Strictly has lost its star of the show. Such a genuine, charismatic person, fantastic teacher and classy dancer! You will be sorely missed on the show but we wish you luck in your new ventures and are sure you will be brightening our TV screens again soon! With so much potential they aren't going to let you slip away. So proud to have had the privilege to be taught by you and look forward to many more opportunities to do so! Lots of love Claire xxx

Erin you have given me hours of entertainment over the last ten series of strictly. I have loved seeing you perform and you and Anton dance so beautifully together it will be hard to see him dancing on the show with another professional.
Good luck with everything you do and I am sure we will still see you around x x

Erin, Strictly just won't be Strictly without you. All the magic will have gone out of it for me. Your elegance, grace and class in ballroom dancing will be sorely missed. I really hope that we will continue to see you on TV - perhaps they can give you a regular slot on ITT with that machine!! I also hope to see you touring with Anton again - I really missed meeting you this year after Northampton. The snow was so bad I couldn't get there - was gutted! Lots of luck and love for whatever you do next, Benita XX

Erin, I am absolutely devastated! This really is the end of a phenomenal era in which you've brought us so much wonderful entertainment over the last ten years! I will miss your amazing talent, your grace and your humbleness enormously on the dancefloor on Strictly, but I have no doubt you will be going on to equally exciting new projects! Please don't be a stranger to our screens! Having been so fortunate as to meet you and Anton twice at the stage door, I'd like to share with everyone what a lovely person and so giving of your time you are! :) Dancers such as yourself and your fellow pros on Strictly inspired me to take up Ballroom and Latin at uni and I haven't looked back since! All the best for the future from Edinburgh xxx
Scott commented on 02-Jun-2013 11:33 PM
Was absolutely devastated when I found out you were leaving but I wish you every success in every single thing you do because you're so amazing and you deserve it :) I'll still see you on tour which will make things easier though. Good luck and love you! L xxx

I only found out today that you are leaving Strictly! - All I can say is that Strictly has lost the best female Pro dancer it has had. I always liked you from the start as you came across as a very warm, approachable and genuinely friendly person. You have never acted like a Diva. I do hope you pop up on ITT and that we see you in you other projects on our screens. Sending you all the best wishes for the future. Rosalind xxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh, Strictly just won't be the same without you Erin. For me, you have always been the most amazing dancer and I've loved watching you with your celebrity partners and dear old Anton. You've always been so patient and kind with your celebs too - a true lady right down to your twinkle toes. All the very best for the future and thank you so much for giving us so many wonderful memories over the years.
Beverley Todd commented on 04-Jun-2013 08:12 PM
Oh lovely Erin I was so saddened to find out that you are leaving SCD. You are such a wonderful dancer & partner to Anton showing such grace & professionalism & a marvel to watch. My partner & I had the privilege of attending one of your shows with Anton in March at Aylesbury & we had a great time. I wish you every success in the future & promise me that you will never let go of that bubbly infectious personality & that sexy smile! xx
Antony Holland commented on 05-Jun-2013 11:19 AM
Dearest Erin you were Strictly - as every new series commenced I hoped against hope you would be allocated a partner with some potential in order to keep you in the competition as long as possible. I would also echo the comments of others, your mere presence on the dance floor was the highlight of the show. Can I venture to suggest as there is talk of Brucie retiring, there could be an opportunity for you and Anton to become the hosts of the Show. That would be truly wonderful. Thank you for ten wonderful years, hope to see you soon.
Peter Davis commented on 05-Jun-2013 12:32 PM

As I've told you on numerous occasions, "You bring the sunshine into our lives". Good luck lovely, Erin. I hope to see you next week. You've been great throughout SCD - kindly and patiently trying to teach, not only the celebrities, but also the likes of me! See you soon. A big THANK YOU and a big HUG. ERIN & ANTON just wanted to say thank you for a fabulous time. Great birthday for me and great few days. Sadly it's back to boring reality but I have some lovely photos and memories. Thank you for putting up with me and all the daft things I do - I just want to try to make it as lovely and memorable for you as it is for us. Please thank Anton for dancing with me - it was the icing on the cake. Sally took lots of photos for me. Hope I wasn't too bad, Anton - at least I don't think I trod on your toes! Lovely photo of you and Anton under the wisteria - will bring you both a copy when next see you. BIG HUG and THANK YOU to you both. Lots of love Ann xx

Erin, it's been several months now, but I still feel the pain of not seeing you on Strictly. You are the greatest ballroom dancer ever, along with Anton of course. I completely understand that you chose to leave, but it's still heartbreaking.

I see that you are rooting for Anton all the way (and I agree he and Fiona are doing really well), and I can't wait to see you in your shows, as well as an appearance on maybe the Christmas special. Good luck!
